US military deaths in Iraq war at 4,406
As of Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at least 4,406 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
The figure includes nine military civilians killed in action. At least 3,488 military personnel died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.
The AP count is three fewer than the Defense Department’s tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT.
Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,860 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s weekly tally.

— An American soldier died Tuesday in Baghdad of injuries sustained in a non-combat related accident.

— Sgt. Steve M. Theobald, 53, of Goose Creek, S.C.; died June 4 near Kuwait City, Kuwait, of injuries sustained in a military vehicle roll-over; assigned to 287th Transportation Company, Livingston, Ala.
— Sgt. Israel P. Obryan, 24, of Newbern, Tenn.; died June 11 in Jalula, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device; assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
— Spc. William C. Yauch, 23, of Batesville, Ark.; died June 11 in Jalula, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device; assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
