Spirit Airlines and striking pilots resume talks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Spirit Airlines and its striking pilots are exchanging proposals aimed at ending their four-day walkout.

The National Mediation Board is running the meeting in Fort Lauderdale.

Andy Nelson, vice chairman of the Spirit branch of the Air Line Pilots Association, says the meeting was originally intended as a chance to see if there was anything for the two sides to talk about. He says it has progressed to an exchange of proposals and full negotiations.

The talks could still fall apart. The strike is continuing until there’s a deal. Spirit has been grounded since pilots walked out on Saturday morning. All Spirit’s flights are canceled through Thursday.
