‘Karate Kid’ takes down ‘A-Team’ with $55.7M debut

LOS ANGELES — “The Karate Kid” has not lost his chops.

The remake of the 1984 hit led the weekend with a $55.7 million debut, more than double the $25.7 million opening of another 1980s update, the big-screen take on the TV show “The A-Team.”

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:
