Sacramento standoff suspect shoots at deputies
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Authorities in California say the armed man who has barricaded himself inside a Sacramento apartment with a 1-year-old boy shot at deputies overnight, as the standoff stretched into its third day.
Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Tim Curran says 26-year-old Anthony Alvarez fired six or seven shots early Friday morning. He says some of the shots were indiscriminate but others were directed at deputies with the SWAT team.
Alvarez has been holed up in the apartment with the boy since midday Wednesday. That’s when authorities arrived to arrest him on suspicion of armed robbery and shooting at an officer.
Curran says authorities were able to communicate with Alvarez overnight. He described the discussions as “productive.”
Deputies don’t believe the child has been injured.
