Smoke smell halts Greece-bound Continental flight
BOSTON — An airline spokesman says a Continental Airlines flight bound for Greece has made an emergency landing Boston after passengers reported smelling smoke in the cabin.
Andrew Ferraro says Continental Flight 104 to Athens was diverted to Logan International Airport on Friday night for safety reasons. The Boeing 767-400 landed without incident.
A Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman originally said the pilot had reported smoke in the cockpit.
Ferraro says the aircraft left Newark, N.J., at 6:30 p.m., carrying 233 passengers and crew. It landed in Boston at 7:50 p.m.
He says the airline has not yet determined what caused the smoke odor.
Houston-based Continental was planning to send another jetliner to Boston to fly the passengers to their final destination Friday night.
