Mexico, with US help, finds explosives in home

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s navy found more than 44 pounds (20 kilograms) of explosives in a trendy residential neighborhood in the capital after exchanging information with U.S. authorities, officials said Wednesday.

Four Mexicans who belong to an organized crime group were arrested after officials raided a home in Mexico City’s Roma neighborhood, the navy said in a statement.

The explosives are the type used in demolition because they can be applied directly to structures and have enough force to break apart metal, officials said.

Navy spokeswoman Lt. Cindy Espinosa said she could not release further information.

It is unclear which U.S. agency the Mexican Navy was working with, or whether officials found any other evidence in the house that might have indicated why the men had the explosives.

Espinosa said she would release more details as they became available.
