MEXICO CITY, (Gaeatimes.com)- Mexico is all set to celebrate its 200 years of independence. The nation long celebration which kickstarts tonight will host a slew of fireworks, music and laser shows aimed to raise the spirit of the nation which has been lately crippled by recession and drug mafias. The two day long celebration which will mark two hundred years of Mexican Independence Day will witness the entire nation unitedly singing for the betterment of the nation’s future.

However, high security alert has been called for on the occasion ofMexican Independence day. It has also been reported that some cities and towns have decided to cut down the celebration amidst fear of drug cartel violence that looms over them. Still the spirit of celebration was widely visible throughout as Mexico City prepared for the lightings and other events which is going to lit up the entire nation in times of despair and anxiety. Actors were seen rehearsing on floats, depicting historical events.

According to reports, the entire nation has spent millions of dollars to celebrate the bicentennial. Billions of dollars have been spent for public welfare including new airports, parks and freeways. Still darkness looms over the nation mostly because of the drug related violence. President Felipe Calderon’s military crackdown that took place in 2006 on the drug cartels instigated the mass violence which has curbed the nation since. Unofficial reports suggest that since December 2006 around 22,000 lives have been lost due to drug related violence. This year the people of Mexico stand tall to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day as a token of peace.
