102nd Gaden Tripa given a warm welcome in Jammu and Kashmir

LEH - The 102nd Gaden Tripa, Rizong Sras-Trul Rinpoche, the supreme head of Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism received a grand reception by his followers on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh District.

Scores of locals with flowers, incense and traditional well-wishing scarves stood on each side of the road to get a glimpse of the Gaden Tripa.

“After becoming the 102nd Gaden Tripa, Rizong Sras-Trul Rinpoche has come to Ladakh for the first time. So, it is a moment of joy and happiness for the people of Ladakh,” said Morup Namgyal, a monk.

Gaden Tripa is the title of the spiritual leader of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, the school that held sway in central Tibet till 1950s.

“It is a proud moment for the people of Ladakh because in the history of Tibet, first time a Gaden Tripa, which is the highest religious position, has been given to a Ladakh scholar named Rizong Sras-Trul Rinpoche,” said Tsering Norboo Martse, a scholar. (ANI)
