KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian local council president has been arrested for allegedly demanding sexual favours from a woman in return for approving a permit to run an asam pedas shop.

The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on June 1 after the woman lodged a police report in Seremban.

And while he has been released on bail pending investigations, it was revealed that the woman, who is in her 30s and married with children, had become pregnant following the sexual tryst two months ago.

Sources revealed that the official had forced the woman to undergo an abortion a couple of weeks ago and paid for the procedure.

MACC director of investigations Mustafar Ali said in Shah Alam that investigations were ongoing and refused to reveal further details.

Sources said that MACC is also checking with the particular clinic where the abortion is said to have been conducted.

The woman has also provided them her personal items as evidence of the sexual encounters, and they are to be sent for DNA analysis.

It was also learnt that other people are expected to be called up for questioning before the investigations wrapped up.

Meanwhile, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam confirmed that he has been informed of the investigations.

“We are leaving it to the commission to carry out its investigations,” the Star Online quoted him as telling reporters after opening the Tourism Information Centre at Gerbang Melaka in Ayer Keroh. (ANI)
