B-17 to drop flowers for CIA killed in Afghanistan
NEW YORK — Historic aircraft will escort a B-17 bomber as it drops flowers over the Statue of Liberty in a public Memorial Day tribute to seven CIA employees killed in Afghanistan.
A World War II fighter trainer from the American Airpower Museum on Long Island is scheduled to escort the bomber as it drops flowers in New York Harbor on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the CIA’s director of national clandestine service, Michael J. Sulick, is expected to attend a memorial service at the Farmingdale museum.
The tribute honors seven employees killed Dec. 30 by a suicide bomber at a CIA base in Afghanistan’s Khost province.
