Workers evacuate after chemical release in Pa.

LEETSDALE, Pa. — Cleanup has begun at an industrial park west of Pittsburgh where a vapor cloud was released while a worker was mixing a chemical.

Spokeswoman Christine McGee says Weatherford Artificial Lift Systems Inc. was evacuated Thursday morning after a reaction occurred while a worker blended powerdered ammonium persulfate.

Allegheny County emergency officials say a vapor cloud was reported inside and outside the building.

The worker was treated at a hospital and released. No other injuries were reported.

Weatherford is a Switzerland-based corporation that makes products used by gas and oil drillers. The company says that it is investigating and that evaluations have begun in the cleanup process.
