Militants storm house, kill 3 in NW Pakistan

KHAR, Pakistan — A local official says militants in northwestern Pakistan shot and killed a pro-government tribal elder along with his wife and son.

Political administrator Arshad Khan says insurgents attacked Toor Khan and his family when they stormed their house in the Bajur tribal area near the Afghan border Thursday.

The slain elder played an active role in setting up a militia force to fight the Taliban in Bajur in early 2009. Pakistan’s army declared victory in Bajur earlier this year after two offensives in the area.

However, militants still occasionally target troops and citizens allied with the government. The attacks underscore the continued ability of the militants to intimidate locals in the area.
