CHENNAI - All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalitha has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to initiate action against Communications and IT Minister A Raja for his controversial role in the allocation of 2G spectrum.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Jayalalitha said Dr. ingh ought to have initiated action against Raja.

“It is quite eminent that the Prime Minister is not taking any action against Raja because it is not just Raja, but someone else who is involved. It is that powerful person whom obviously, the Prime Minister is trying to shield. So, this bodes ill for the future of the nation. It is up to the Prime Minister to assert his authority and take action against whoever is guilty,” she said.

She accused Raja of unaccountable corruption and added that the national media had already highlighted the scam pertaining to 2G spectrum allocation.

She said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had recovered certain documents from Raja’s office, which could provide ample evidence to frame him.

Spectrum allocation has been a controversial issue over the past several months as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had gone by the first-come-first-serve rule, rather than shifting to an auction regime.

Raja had been under fire and the government is believed to have lost around rupees 60,000 crore for not taking the auction route stipulated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
