Air India struggles as many flights cancelled

NEW DELHI /MUMBAI - A day after an employees strike was called off national carrier Air India is struggling to set its operation back on track, as many flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country still remained cancelled on Thursday.
Air travelers continue to be stranded at airports after the two-day flash strike left Air India completely in the lurch.
Over 13,000 passengers were affected by the strike, while 4,000 to 5,000 passengers were stranded, including 600 in Singapore, Air India said.
Air India was forced to cancel over 140 domestic as well as international flights during the strike.
The national carrier has reportedly lost 12.5 crore rupees in earnings and revenue during the past two days.
Air India has said it will take at least three days to clear the passenger backlog.
On Wednesday, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry sacked 17 union leaders and suspended-15 engineers who led the strike.
On the same day, the Delhi High Court declared the two-day strike illegal.
On Tuesday, over 20,000 Air India employees went on strike protesting against a reported airline management gag order. (ANI)
