Suburban Dallas man executed for killing wife
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A Dallas-area man has been executed for barging into a neighbor’s suburban apartment almost 19 years ago and shooting his estranged wife while he was out on bail on a child molestation charge.
Fifty-four-year-old John Alba died Tuesday evening. He was the 11th prisoner executed this year in Texas, the nation’s busiest death penalty state. Another execution is set for next week.
Testimony at Alba’s trial showed he and his 28-year-old wife, Wendy, had a rocky marriage marked by alcohol abuse, infidelity and domestic violence. A prosecutor said Alba pushed his way into a neighbor’s apartment as Wendy Alba and the neighbor tried to block the door. He shot his wife three times.
Alba was executed by lethal injection after the U.S. Supreme Court refused his appeal.
