Events planned in observance of Harvey Milk Day
SAN FRANCISCO — Events are taking place in California and across the country in observance of Harvey Milk Day.
California is celebrating its first day of “special significance” honoring the slain gay rights leader on what would have been his 80th birthday.
Along with concerts, political fundraisers and rallies in California, commemorative events in Milk’s honor are planned in 20 other states Saturday.
In San Francisco, a dedication of a Harvey Milk plaque is set for Saturday afternoon at the site of Milk’s camera store. A free showing of the movie “Milk” was also planned in a local theatre.
In Southern California, a rally was taking place in East Los Angeles and a Harvey Milk Day of Community Service was scheduled to take place at West Hollywood Park.
