Cuban singer SILVIO RODRIGUEZ is to perform in the U.S. for the first time in three decades after officials granted him a visa.

The legendary folk star will stage a show at New York’s Carnegie Hall next month (Jun10) after strict American laws governing visits by Cuban citizens were relaxed by U.S. President Barack Obama.

The move is aimed at encouraging more “cultural exchanges” between the Caribbean republic and the U.S., and Rodriguez is one of the first artists to benefit.

Reuters reports the musician’s lawyer Bill Martinez has confirmed Rodriguez’s permit to travel to the States was approved on Tuesday (11May10). He will perform at Carnegie Hall on 04 June (10).

Rodriguez applied for a visa last year (09) to join a New York concert in honour of folk singer Pete Seeger, but it was not approved in time.
