Reports: Berlusconi and wife agree on separation
ROME — Italian news reports say Premier Silvio Berlusconi, who was embroiled in a sex scandal last year, and his wife have agreed to a separation ahead of divorce.
Milan daily Corriere della Sera and other media said Monday that Veronica Lario would be given lifetime use of the luxurious Macherio villa and estate near Milan, where she lives with the estranged couple’s three grown children.
The reports said Lario, a former actress and the billionaire media mogul’s second wife, might accept his alimony offer of 3.6 million euros (€4.7 million) annually, rather than her original demand of that much monthly.
Legal offices for both sides said no one was immediately available for comment.
Lario has said she wants a divorce because of Berlusconi’s infatuation with young women.
