LA shelter meal goes wild with bear tacos

LOS ANGELES — It’s been a wild night at a Skid Row shelter in Los Angeles.

The Union Rescue Mission offered a dinner Monday night of tacos made from wild elk, deer, sheep, pig, black bear and antelope.

The Sportsman Channel donated about 250 pounds of fresh game meat as part of its national “Hunt. Fish. Feed.” initiative.

The shelter’s meals can vary depending on what’s donated, from doughnuts to Dodger dogs. But game is rarely on the menu.

The meal went over pretty well. One diner, Ralph Johnson, tried a ground-meat taco that included bear meat.

His conclusion: “It tastes … just like tacos.”
