NCSU AD Fowler steps down after 10 years

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State says athletic director Lee Fowler is stepping down effective June 30.

Chancellor Randy Woodson said Tuesday that he talked with Fowler on Monday “and we agreed that now is the appropriate time to make a change.”

N.C. State says it will honor Fowler’s contract, which expires Sept. 20, 2013, and pays him $280,000 per year.

Fowler says he’s “disappointed that I will not see firsthand the fruits of 10 years’ work” but says N.C. State’s athletic department is “poised for great success.”

Woodson says he will name an interim AD and will conduct a national search for Fowler’s replacement.
