Fireworks box found at NYC bomb suspect’s home
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Officials at a fireworks company say federal agents told them their “M88 Silver Salutes” firecrackers were found inside an SUV meant to explode in Times Square.
A box of the consumer-grade firecrackers also was among the items removed Tuesday from the Bridgeport home of suspect Faisal Shahzad. The Pakistani-born U.S. citizen has been charged with the failed New York City bombing attempt.
William Weimer, vice president of Youngstown, Ohio-based Phantom Fireworks, says he recognized his company’s products in a news photograph taken outside Shahzad’s home.
Weimer said the M88s are designed to be loud but not powerful and will not ignite one another. Authorities say the bomb of fireworks, gasoline and other items did not ignite as planned Saturday night.
