US soldier dies of non-combat injuries in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — The U.S. military in Iraq says an American soldier has died of injuries that were not a result of combat.

A statement by the military on Friday said the soldier died in Baghdad on Thursday but gave no other details.

The incident is under investigation.

The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The death raises to at least 4,393 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003. That’s according to an Associated Press count.
