Pa. incumbent: Foe feigning bisexuality for votes

PHILADELPHIA — The old tactic of dragging out an opponent’s sexual skeletons for political gain is being turned on its head in the City of Brotherly Love.

In a left-leaning Philadelphia area anchored by what locals affectionately call the Gayborhood, a state representative accuses her foe of pretending to be bisexual to win votes.

Rep. Babette Josephs says Gregg Kravitz, her challenger in the May 18 Democratic primary for the seat, is straight.

Kravitz describes himself as openly bisexual and in a relationship with a woman. He says Josephs’ statements are “dishonest and disgusting.”

But the controversy doesn’t mean being gay, lesbian or bisexual is now the ticket to public office. A spokesman for the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund political action committee says “it’s still a hurdle.”
