LA judge says parents of disabled SC woman can seek child visitation rights for their daughter

Parents can fight for daughter’s visitation rights

LOS ANGELES — A judge in Los Angeles says the parents of a severely disabled woman can fight for their daughter’s right to receive visits from her 3-year-old triplets.

Superior Court Judge Rudolph A. Diaz ruled Tuesday that the parents of Abbie Dorn can pursue visitation rights on behalf of the 34-year-old woman, who lives with them in South Carolina. He also ordered neurological testing for the woman.

Dorn was left unable to move or speak after a botched delivery in 2006. Her parents claim she communicates by blinking, but her ex-husband claims she is in a vegetative state.

Dan Dorn, who lives in Los Angeles, has refused to let the children visit his ex-wife for about 2½ years. He says it might psychologically harm them.
