Sugar, grains rise on hopes of better demand

DENVER — Sugar and grain prices are rising as traders hope that demand is improving for the crops.

Sugar prices got a boost after Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told reporters Tuesday that he believes the United States will adjust the sugar import quota.

Commercial buying of soybeans is boosting hopes that demand is growing stronger for the crop. Wheat and corn also are higher.

Metals and energy prices are mixed.
