Soldier killed in Jammu and Kashmir encounter

HANDWARA - At least one soldier of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) killed and another was injured in an encounter in the Rajwad forests of Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.

This is the 30th encounter in last 90 days in the state.

The encounter, which started at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, was continuing even after 20 hours.

Based on a tip off the Jammu and Kashmir Special Operation Group (SOG), and the 22nd battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles launched the operation to flush out terrorists.

Security agencies suspect that over seven terrorists are holding up in forests.

When reports last came in, the encounter was still on. More details are awaited. (ANI)
