RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh’s police chief Vishwa Ranjan had his birthday Thursday, but not every officer in the department rushed to greet him. Many feared it was an April Fool’s Day prank!

When Ranjan stepped into his chambers, many Indian Police Service (IPS) officers posted at the headquarters came to greet him but many were wary of falling into the ‘trap’.

Police sources said, a deputy inspector general of police-rank officer posted in Bastar made at least four calls to the headquarters before wishing his boss.

Ranjan, who was aware that his colleagues and juniors were attempting to cross-check his birth date, said: “People normally get confused and are hesitant to wish me on my birthday because it falls on April Fool’s Day.

“In 1953, my mother cooked several dishes to celebrate my first birthday in Patna. None of the relatives turned up and my mother got angry because all the items got wasted. It was all because of fool’s day,” Ranjan told IANS.
