Broken-hearted man cuts off own penis

JAKARTA - An Indonesian man has cut off his own penis and thrown it into a well after his girlfriend decided to marry someone else, local media reported Tuesday.

The 19-year-old man from Cilacap district in Central Java province arrived in hospital Thursday in critical condition from blood loss but medical personnel managed to save his life, according to the Jakarta Globe newspaper.

“It was a critical time,” the hospital’s director, Sugeng Budi Susanto, told the Globe. “Cutting off a penis can be fatal.”

Susanto said the man, who was identified only as AMD, refused to talk about the incident, but a source confirmed that he had cut of his penis after he discovered his girlfriend intended to marry another man, according to the Globe.

“The sliced-off penis has not been found,” the source was quoted as saying.

“Allegedly, (he) threw it into the well with the intention of committing suicide because he thought nobody would be able to save his life.”
