Skydiver crashes through Texas condo roof, dies
PORT ARANSAS, Texas — A skydiver whose parachute collapsed as he was photographing skydiving tandems has died after crashing through a condo roof in Texas.
Witnesses say the man’s parachute opened but collapsed when he turned into the wind to land in Port Aransas, a coastal town about 15 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the experienced skydiver survived the initial impact but later died of his injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police say the man was a Hungarian national who worked for Sky Dive Atlas of Gardner, N.Y., which was handling the morning jump. His name hasn’t been released.
A company spokesman says the man had made more than 10,000 previous jumps.
