No sign of missing Wash. mother; son drowned
SEATTLE — Another day of searching failed to turn up a missing Washington mother in the general area where her 8-year-old son’s body was found on Thursday.
Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Friday afternoon that a search plane was sent up to look for Shantina Smiley.
The county medical examiner’s office said Friday that her son, Azriel Carver, drowned and his death was an accident.
His body was found on a Fox Island beach southwest of Tacoma. He and his mother were last seen on Saturday, and her minivan was found partially submerged on a remote south Puget Sound beach the next day.
