Montana man spends 4 days in car stuck in snowbank

KALISPELL, Mont. — A 67-year-old Montana man spent four days in his car stuck in a snowbank on a remote mountain road and even wrote a goodbye letter before he was rescued.

Louis Rogers says he left Montana’s Flathead region Thursday to make a trip to Calder, Idaho. The remote road got too snowy for Rogers’ Cadillac so he tried to turn around and the car got stuck.

Rogers has a history of heart problems and decided to wait for help. He melted snow to drink and turned his car on intermittently to get warm.

He says he thought he was going to die on Sunday, but Scott and Penny Kalis of Coeur d’Alene happened to come by in their four-wheel drive vehicle and rescued him.

More than 200 friends and relatives and multiple law enforcement agencies had been searching for Rogers.
