ROHTAK - This Haryana town Sunday organised a blood donation camp in tribute to an army officer from the town who died fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Captain Deepak Sharma died after gunning down three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in a gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month.
According to Sharma’s family and friends, the blood donation camp was a unique way of honouring the brave officer who hailed from Rohtak.
Donors said they aim to collect blood units double the body weight of the young captain who hailed from this Haryana town.
Among scores of donors was Asha Hooda, wife of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and chairperson of the Haryana Child Welfare Council.
“By sacrificing his life for the country, the brave officer has brought glory to the family, to the state and to the country. Haryana is proud of the fact that every 10th soldier in the Indian Army belongs to the state,” Hooda said after donating blood.
Sharma attained martyrdom during a gun battle with Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Tral region of Jammu and Kashmir. He killed at least three militants before he died.
The family said that the young officer had given up a lucrative job offer from Sony Ericsson to join the army after completing his studies. He was engaged to be married to a serving woman army captain in November this year.
