Archie comes calling on mobile, speaking Indian languages

NEW DELHI - The popular Archie comic strip will now be available on your mobile phone and that too in four Indian languages.
“Archie comics have not lost their popularity in the past 60 years. With Archie comic strips being made available on mobiles, the reader will not have to wait for months to see what happens next,” Nitish Mittersain, CEO of Nazara Technologies, said Friday. Nazara Technologies is the mobile entertainment company that is introducing the comic strip for the first time in Indian languages.
“In addition, with the comic in Indian languages, more people can now enjoy reading the comic strip,” he added.
According to Mittersain, the comic strip will be available in four Indian languages - Marathi, Guajarti, Tamil and Hindi.
“The mobile user can download Archie comic strips in their choice of language by using their GPRS connection at varied price points - one rupee per day, Rs.10 per week and Rs.30 per month depending on their operator,” he said.
Jon Goldwater, CEO of Archie Comics Publications, said: “We are excited to be working with Nazara and look forward to the many fans of our brand having access through our digital comics”.
“Even today there are about a million copies of Archie comics sold every month. So you can well imagine Archie’s popularity,” he added.
