Iraq election commision head says results in days
BAGHDAD — The head of Iraq’s election commission says results to the country’s historic election will be announced in a few days.
Faraj al-Haidari told The Associated Press that the preliminary results will be announced within two or three days, most likely on Thursday.
Haidari said turnout figures could be announced Monday, but declined to comment further.
Around the country Iraqis recovered from the election, removing campaign posters and burying those who died in the violence the day before.
The election is seen as a key test of whether Iraq can put behind it the divisive sectarian tension that almost tore the country apart.
The election will also determine who will lead the country as U.S. troops go home.
