Gunmen kill Pakistani Taliban leader in northwest
MIR ALI, Pakistan — Pakistani intelligence officials and militants say gunmen have killed a Pakistani Taliban commander in the country’s North Waziristan tribal area.
A local Taliban member says Maulvi Noor Mohammad was ambushed Saturday night near the main town of Miran Shah by relatives of a man he recently tortured and killed. He spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity out of fear for his safety.
The intelligence officials say Mohammad led a group of about 400 men who focused on staging cross-border attacks against U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan in coordination with other commanders in the area.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
