Army captain, militant killed in Pulwama encounter

PULWAMA - An Army Captain and a militant were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Pulwama District on Thursday.

The encounter which was started on Wednesday at Mir Mohalla Dadasir area is still on.

Two jawans and a policeman were also injured.

The gunbattle broke out when militants, who were hiding in a house fired on a joint search party of police and the 42 Rashtriya Rifles personnel.

Security forces resumed the operation to flush out militants this morning, which was suspended last night due to darkness and inclement weather.

The militants fired a volley of bullets on the search party this morning prompting security forces to retaliate.

Security forces suspect that at least three to four militants are hiding in the area.

The Captain is the second Army officer to be killed in an encounter in Kashmir in less than a fortnight.

On February 24, Captain Devinder Singh Jass was killed in an encounter in Sopore District.

When the last report came in, on exchange of fire was going on between both sides. (ANI)
