Judge rules Colorado woman’s remains can be frozen

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Colorado judge ruled Monday that the remains of a Colorado Springs woman can be frozen, despite protests from the woman’s daughter.

A magistrate said the final will for 71-year-old Mary Robbins directs her body go to Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Alcor Life Extension Foundation to freeze her head in hopes that future technology will be able to revive her.

That’s the same company that cryogenically froze the head of baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams.

Robbins signed the will in 2006, but her daughter, Darlene Robbins, says her mother changed her mind shortly before she died of cancer on Feb. 9.

The daughter has 72 hours to appeal.

Mary Robbins’ body remains packed in dry ice in a Colorado Springs funeral home pending the outcome of the legal battle.
