Woman gives birth to four babies

KOLKATA - A woman in the northern outskirts of Kolkata has given birth to four premature babies - two males and two females - in a rare case which happens in one among five lakh pregnant women.
The mother and the babies are doing fine, say attending doctors.
“All the babies are doing fine though they are premature. The expected delivery date was April 24. But on Feb 20 the patient, Mithu Saha, was admitted and we had to carry out the delivery,” said Dipankar Das, an attending doctor.
The two male babies weighed around 1.8 Kg each and the two females just around 950 grams.
The babies, born at intervals of 30 seconds to 1 minute, have been kept at the nursing home’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
