Snow may have been factor in Pa. ice rink collapse
ROSTRAVER, Pa. — A fire official says snow and ice buildup may have contributed to a roof collapse at a western Pennsylvania ice skating rink, but that the cause has not been determined.
Justin Shawley, assistant chief of the Rostraver Central Volunteer Fire Company, also says the initial 911 call Sunday afternoon reported people being trapped, but that everyone inside the Rostraver Ice Garden near Pittsburgh made it out safely.
No one was hurt when a 100-by-200-foot section of roof collapsed between games of a youth hockey tournament.
Search teams sifted through the rubble to make sure no one was trapped. They determined everyone had been accounted for.
The region has gotten more than two feet of snow in the past week and a half.
