Trinidad detains man accused of attacking 2 kids

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — A man in Trinidad is being held in a knife attack on two schoolchildren near the home where the suspect witnessed the massacre of his family 16 years ago.

Police said Thursday that no charges have been filed against Osmond Baboolal in the stabbing of a 12- and 14-year-old, who are recovering in a hospital.

Baboolal was about 13 when gang members burst into his home and killed his parents and two siblings. He testified against the attackers, who were convicted of murder and executed.

One suspect who became a state witness testified he hid Baboolal and a sister in a room, helping them survive the attack.

Police say Baboolal has been charged in several previous violent incidents, including an attack on his uncle.
