On threat day, Ohio college fights back with peace

NELSONVILLE, Ohio — An Ohio technical college plans to dedicate a peace monument the same day graffiti in a dorm warned that black students would be killed.

Hocking College is kicking off a “We Are One Hocking” campaign at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a walk, a candlelight service and the monument dedication.

President Ron Erickson and his wife have moved for a few days into the dormitory where the message promising carnage Tuesday was found.

Erickson pledged better security, police and counselors after the message was found more than a week ago. It is being investigated by campus police and the FBI.

The threat led at least two black students to withdraw from school and others to move out of the dorm.
