Jenny Sanford: Governor asked her advice on affair

CHARLESTON, S.C. — In a new memoir about her husband’s affair, South Carolina first Lady Jenny Sanford writes that Mark Sanford sought her advice about his romance and how to deal with the media after she discovered his extramarital relationship.

Jenny Sanford writes in “Staying True” that the governor wondered whether he should follow his heart to Argentina and if he would regret if he never did. Jenny Sanford writes she wished her husband had kept the thoughts to himself.

She also writes she was “gut-punched all over again” when Mark Sanford told The Associated Press he’d had dalliances with other women.

“Staying True” is being released Friday. The AP acquired an early copy.
