Body found near San Diego may be missing toddler
SAN DIEGO — Volunteers have found the body of a young girl near Border Field State Park in the San Diego area, and authorities are investigating whether she was one of two children swept away 11 days ago by a rain-swollen Tijuana creek.
San Diego County Medical Examiner investigator Korletta Howrish said the body was found Sunday near where a boy’s body was found Wednesday, and DNA tests are being performed on both to see whether they are the 2-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy from a family swept away in their car on Jan. 20.
The body of the children’s 10-year-old sister was quickly recovered, and the parents survived.
The volunteer group Border Angels found the girl in a swampy area Sunday morning. The group’s Rafael Hernandez says “everything seems to match the description” of the girl.
