Washington Times names Dealey as top editor

WASHINGTON — The Washington Times has appointed Sam Dealey, a journalist and fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution, as its next top editor.

Dealey is a contributor at U.S. News and World Report and has served as an editorial writer for the Asian edition of the Wall Street Journal. The 36-year-old has written for Time, Reader’s Digest and other outlets.

The appointment comes after the newspaper slashed more than 40 percent of its staff. Dealey succeeds John Solomon.

In an announcement Saturday, publisher Jonathan Slevin says Dealey was chosen after a nationwide search and will lead the paper to serve as “an independent watchdog for the American people.”

Dealey says this is a chance to help shape the publication during its overhaul, which comes at a time when many newspapers are struggling financially.
