Nancy Kerrigan’s dad to be laid to rest in Mass.

STONEHAM, Mass. — The father of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan is being laid to rest.

A funeral Mass for 70-year-old Daniel Kerrigan is scheduled for Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Stoneham.

Daniel Kerrigan died Sunday after what authorities say was a violent struggle with his son, Mark Kerrigan. Family members said he died of an unrelated heart attack. Forty-five-year-old Mark Kerrigan has pleaded not guilty to assault, and authorities are awaiting tests on the cause of his father’s death.

Family members remembered Daniel Kerrigan as a dedicated father and grandfather with a great sense of humor.

Nancy Kerrigan said in statement that her dad was “my support … behind me always,” and brought her to the rink at 5 a.m. every morning to train.
