Northwestern building on lockdown after gun report

CHICAGO — Police are searching a building at Northwestern University’s campus in downtown Chicago after receiving a report that a man inside may have a gun.

An alert posted on the school’s Web site tells those in the Rubloff Building to stay in their offices with the doors locked while campus and Chicago police conduct the search. The alert says someone reported seeing a man with a gun in his waistband inside an 11th floor elevator.

A campus police dispatcher would only say officers are following up on the report. He declined to provide other details.

A Chicago police spokesman referred all questions to Northwestern.

According to the school’s Web site, the Rubloff Building houses a number of research and law school offices.
