Bank bomb threat prompts LA suburb evacuations

MONROVIA, Calif. — Monrovia authorities say several hundred people have been evacuated from buildings in the Los Angeles foothill suburb after a man claiming to have a bomb tried to enter a bank.

City spokesman Dick Singer says the man slipped a note under the door of the Citizens Business Bank around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The note claimed he had a bomb.

Singer says the bank staff refused to open the door but the man has barricaded himself in the foyer.

The bank, a nearby office building and Mount Sierra College across the street have been evacuated.

Police and members of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s bomb squad are on the scene.
