LONDON - Reigning Formula One champion Jenson Button has said the harrowing scenes of suffering people in Haiti has made him think and “put everything into perspective”.

“I was in Finland on a training camp with the team with no access to the news or a television so it took a while for the news to filter through. When I heard I never imagined it would be as catastrophic as it’s proven to be,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.Until you see the footage and the images coming out of Haiti you can’t begin to imagine the level of destruction that’s taken place. Even with these images you still can’t imagine what it must be like for those actually there. Without question it puts everything into perspective,” he added.

While the news coming out of Haiti since last week’s tragic earthquake has largely been devastating and hope-shattering, the stories of survivors being found and rescued after days of being trapped under rubble has made Button value life and vow to do the maximum he can.

“I don’t even mean in terms of how lucky I am to do what I do for a living, I’m talking about things that so many of us take for granted such as having a family around me who love and support me,” Button said.

“That’s something which tens of thousands of people devastated by the Haiti earthquake have lost. It’s incredible to see the level of support so far from around the world with so many people giving and doing whatever they can to help,” he added. (ANI)
