Grapevine section of CA I-5 closed again by snow

FORT TEJON, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol says it has closed the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 because of heavy snow for the second time in as many days.

CHP Officer John Lutz (Lootz) says a 30-mile stretch of the main freeway between Northern and Southern California was shut down Thursday. There’s no word on how many drivers are stuck in the mountain pass or when the road will reopen.

The same area was closed for hours on Wednesday.

The Grapevine, also called Tejon Pass, is a 4,100-foot-high road across the Tehachapi Mountains about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles. It’s frequently closed in winter because of fierce winds, snow and black ice.
