Nigerian party says ill president leaves hospital

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s ruling party says the nation’s ill president has been released from a Saudi Arabian hospital after a two-month stay.

The Peoples Democratic Party issued a statement Wednesday saying President Umaru Yar’Adua would soon return to Nigeria. However, the party set no date for his return.

Yar’Adua left Nigeria in late November to receive treatment for a serious heart condition. He departed without formally ceding power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, sparking protests and fears of a constitutional crisis.
